Obituary: Athene Lowe Hunt - Deseret News (Salt Lake City)

Athene Lowe Hunt A Noble Lady Our beloved wife, mother andgrandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006. Shewas surrounded by her loving family as she passed quietly from thislife after a long and sustained illness. Born January 18, 1923 inMonroe, (Austin) Utah to Joseph Lester Lowe and Lottie Swain Lowe.Married Richard Dale Hunt on April 23, 1945 in the Manti Temple.Their union is eternal. In life they were one, in death they willnot be separated. Active all her life serving in leadership andservice positions in the community and LDS church. Graduated fromSouth Sevier High School in 1941, attended BYU. Worked insecretarial positions for the State Road Commission, and Universityof Utah. Her greatest accomplishments were as a devoted wife,mother, grandmother and homemaker. Served in the Relief Society andPrimary as teacher and counselor. Delegate to the Utah Women'sLegislative Council from the Utah Pharmaceutical Association andSigma Nu Mother's Club. Served on the Boards of the Salt Lake CountyAssociation and Utah State Association for Retarded Citizens. Activelobbyist for the passing of historical legislation in 1969 to helphandicapped children mainstream in the public school system. Servedfor over 20 years in the Utah State Pharmaceutical AssociationAuxiliary, serving as President in 1962. Awarded the Dawn BainMemorial Award in 1986 for her service to Pharmacy and the PharmacyAuxiliary. Member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. An accomplishedhistorian, she took great pride and spent many hours compilingfamily histories and historical family documents, and wrote personalhistories of loved ones. Loved to create with her hands and use herartistic talent. She was a dedicated and talented miniaturist,creator of beautiful ceramic art pieces, and artist of 18th CenturyDecoupage. She is survived by her husband Dale, son Ronald Dale Hunt(Peggy Jo), daughter Janet Hunt, her grandchildren, Kristiann Nelson(Michael), Robert D. Hunt (Jennifer), Thomas L. Hunt (Katie), NathanJ. Hunt, and by her great grandchildren Tyler, Josh, Ryan, Emily andMary-Kate, her brother John R. Lowe (MarKaye), sister Rose MaryWilliams. Preceded in death by an infant sister Betty Lowe, herparents and by her brother Joseph Edward Lowe. Funeral services willbe held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 12 p.m. in the FoothillSixth Ward, 2215 E. Roosevelt Avenue (1460 South). A viewing will beheld on Thursday, November 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at LarkinMortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior tothe funeral service at the Foothill Sixth Ward. The family wishes toexpress gratitude to those who have rendered care-giving service toAthene over the past many months: Foothill Sixth Ward members withspecial and sincere thank you to Carma Wood and Katy Macey, thestaff and aides at Rocky Mountain Health Care, staff andnutritionists at Coram Health Care, and medical staff and aides atCare Source care center.
